Diabetes is condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high. the pancreas (an organ behind the stomach) releases insulin to help your body store and use the sugar and fat from the food you eat. Diabetes can occur when the pancreas produces very little or no insulin, or when the body does not respond appropriately to insulin. As yet, there is no cure. People with diabetes need to manage their disease to stay healthy.
The foods you eat not only make a difference to how you manage your diabetes, but also to how well you feel and how much energy you have.
How much you need to eat and drink is based on your age, gender, how active you are and the goals you’re aiming for. But no single food contains all the essential nutrients your body needs. That’s why a healthy diet is all about variety and choosing different foods from each of the main food groups every day.
